Powdered sugar-covered joy. That's about all I can say about the delightful beignets this place churns out. Yes, it's swarming with tourists, but it's not a tourist trap -- their beignets and coffee are worth the wait. Go -- now!

A must have. If you are from out of town (like me), I can't imagine how you could go to New Orleans without visiting Cafe Du Monde. Cafe Du Monde is a little slice of New Orleans history - and while they have some off-shoot locations located in other areas of the city (I've also been to the one on the river walk) that carry equally as good product, the French Quarters location is a classic. The atmosphere is casual and bustling, tons of character and located in the heart of the french quarters (great people watching). I have YET to have any beignets that come close to Cafe Du Monde's (which is sad since I live so very far away in Chicago) - they get served steaming fresh and melt in your mouth. The chicory coffee is also a classic and I actually bought some to take home with me. I thought people were exaggerating about the beignets, but trust me, words cannot do them justice!
