I love The Joint. It was the first place I went out to when I got to New Orleans and I've been back many times since. It's a real Southern BBQ with a spit in the backyard where they roast the meat that goes directly onto your sandwich. It's got low ceilings and picnic tables inside with concrete floors and no frills walls decorated with local found objects and posters. In the backyard, besides the spit, are more picnic tables and just behind the fence there are the train tracks that are still in operation. Aside from the ambiance of The Joint the food is top notch. If you want authentic BBQ this is the place for you. I get the pork sandwich with a side of baked mac and cheese. They have homemade BBQ sauce on each table and I suggest slathering whatever you get in it. I really can't suggest this place enough. Their food is great and not too expensive (a sandwich and a side for $7) and they have the full menu of Abita's. Take a nice bike ride down to the end of the Bywater and do yourself a favor and eat at The Joint.
