I'd heard plenty of good things about Mother's, and was pretty excited to try it. When I saw the line formed all the way outside the doors, I nearly turned away, but I'm glad I didn't.
The line moves pretty quickly, and people are encouraged to browse the menu so they know exactly what they want when they get up to the counter to order. After ordering, patrons take a seat in one of three dining areas, all very casual and diner-like.
The food itself was incredible. My hungry party ordered about half the menu, including gumbo, jambalaya, a po'boy, an egg/sausage biscuit, grits with "debris," a massive sandwich and a crawfish etouffe omelet. Everything was great, with a couple items (jambalaya and omelet) ridiculously, stop-your-heart-and-die-happy good.
Mother's definitely lived up to the hype. It's not a place I'd want to go every day, but it's an awesome place to indulge in some Louisiana specialties. Highly recommended.
