You can pass by The Spotted Cat any night of the week and hear the sound of New Orleans herself leaking out the door. Usually there's no cover and luckily for us New Orleanians, the music is always good. Trad jazz is the music of choice and it never disappoints. The Jazz Vipers are a favorite of mine, as are the Loose Marbles and Meschiya Lake and the Big Horns. The venue itself is pretty small, fitting about 100 people, and the bar is fully stocked. They don't offer anything particularly special but the atmosphere along with the music is well worth a stop. There's enough space in front of the stage for you to show off your lindy hop and swing moves, and you'll likely be joined by others who know the same steps as you. The Spotted Cat is exactly what you imagine a New Orleans jazz club should be and that's what makes it so special.
