Buzz about Bar Tonique

Bar Tonique is super classy in a particularly New Orleans way. It's a cocktail bar that specializes in fresh ingredients and uses pre and post prohibition cocktail recipes. It's located right on N. Rampart St in the Quarter and has got an air of business getting done inside. It seems to be a good place to meet up with New Orleans up-and-coming and everyone is either good looking or dressed nice and trim. Their cocktails really are the best I've had in the city, especially their Caipirinhas. I suggest hitting Bar Tonique after a long day at the office. It gets a little crowded by not too much, the folks are friendly and good at what they do, and best yet, it gets perfectly boozy inside as the night wears on.

This bar is the sine qua non of bars for those who give a damn about a well-mixed cocktail. Appropriately difficult to find, since it doesn't have a sign. Top-shelf cocktails. Gum syrup in your Sazerac truly makes a difference. Get there early to talk to the owner and bartender about their philosophy (and, as I did) watch them squeeze the night's supply of fresh citrus and make a new batch of gum syrup. The fact that this bar cares about being a neighborhood watering hole first and foremost is telling: great drinks served with a warm, professional attitude.
