Trace Adkins defends his confederate flag earpiece

When Trace Adkins took the stage for NBC's Christmas in Rockefeller Center special that aired Wednesday, Twitter went wild over his Confederate flag earpiece.
It was clearly visible as the superstar country singer, 50, sang The Christmas Song during the annual tree-lighting special. Adkins also wore it on Nov. 19 when he performed at the Saks Fifth Avenue Holiday window unveiling.
After coming under fire for Now, Adkins is defending his ear gear.
"As a proud American I object to oppression of any kind," he writes in a note on his website. "To me, the battle flag represents remembrance of my Southern lineage -- I am a descendant of Confederate soldiers who followed that flag into battle. I advocate for the preservation of America's battlefields and honest conversation about our country's history. To those who view the flag as a symbol of racism, that was not my message and I did not intend offense."
